Urban Apparel Magazine first ran across the folks from Yak Pak at the MAGIC show this past February 2010. We were first lured to their booth by the creative wallets bundled into the swag bags handed to attendees of the POOL show held concurrent and adjacent to the main MAGIC happenings. Immediately, we were drawn to their fabulous designs for back packs, travel bags, wallets, messenger bags, and an assortment of other goodies.
Not wanting to leave this gem unpolished, we[.....]

Walking through the Street section of The MAGIC Marketplace you heard all kinds of awesome sounds blasting through stereos from various designers. However, in the midst of the rap, hip/hop, electronic and club music filling the convention center, Skullcandy, the headphones that have become a global sensation, attracted every music lover to their booth. Well, I should say “booth” in only “conference terms” but it was more like a mini club scene that featured Skullcandy’s eye catching array of colorful[.....]

There are your everyday run of the mill brands, and then there is the Legendary Convertible Bertt. Here is a brand with a truly innovative look at casual fashion. I had the pleasure of talking to Andre, one third of the Legendary Convertible Bertt’s founders.
As Andre explained, “Legendary Convertible Bertt is a conceptual brand that is trying to create our own lane as far as blending muscle cars and fashion. A lot of brands that you see in young men’s[.....]

Tokidoki is one of the most playful brands on the market to date. Between their fun poppy colors and lovable characters, tokidoki has dominated their corner of the market. I spoke with Jeff from Tokidoki at the MAGIC convention.
He explained that tokidoki is a lifestyle brand that is based off of the artwork of Simone Legno, an Italian artist who came to America to realize his dream of creating the brand tokidoki. Tokidoki means “sometimes” in Japanese, because there’s always[.....]

Flud Watches, whom we’ve written about at Urban Apparel Magazine in the past, made their appearance at the MAGIC Marketplace this February 2010. As usual, they continue to inspire with their unique watch designs, but more importantly, astound with the long list of celebrities, influencers, and athletes that sport their products on their wrists. With only a handful of people and a short number of years, Flud Watches has built a strong brand that is firmly ensconced in the world[.....]

Baseball caps with funky brims? Check! Clever fabrics and designs? Check! A premium baseball cap that retails for over $35 in stretch-fitted with red satin lining? Check! A brand everyone’s heard of? … Umm, well not yet. But from the looks of it, they will soon! The brand-spankin’ new Zoptopz caps have finally made their appearance.

Maybe it’s the name, I’ll admit when I first heard it I paid attention, but there is something about Diesel that just makes me think “tough”. Tough like the street or the game or the hustle. A kind of tough that has kept Diesel rising over so many years. Focusing on jeans originally, Diesel now has over 300 stores in 80 countries from small boutiques to Nordstrom’s and Bloomingdale’s. Diesel – very bluntly – is red hot.
Even their ads are[.....]

Why is it that shoes are such a huge indicator of status? Between the pressures of being en vogue and the cost with keeping up with the latest brand it’s no wonder. From men’s sneakers to, well, every type of women’s footwear there’s always the latest and greatest way to express your status.
Ladies, for 2009 we are looking at the ankle boot.
Once upon a time knee high boots were the great indicator, but now they just look too safe. Go[.....]

I love the whole idea of post apocalyptic life. Everyone is hard as nails, fighting for survival. Inevitably the battle proves someone as the new King or Queen. This tough outlook is visible in this years fashion. Just check out the “Run This Town” video with Jay Z and Rhianna, and you’ll see what I mean.
To pull off this trend you need black, black and more black. Preferably a black leather jacket, get some black leggings with a shine, and[.....]

In a former life, Don Ed Hardy was a tattoo artist. Not just any ordinary tattoo artist but he was known as “the godfather of modern tattoo”. He was even awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the San Francisco Art Institute. You can see it in his designs, which are more dynamic and intricate than any other company out there. A stretch to say? Maybe… but if you track his success and influence, you can’t deny it. Don has a unique[.....]
